Bubble, Clementine and Yue - plus some Piggy Panties!

This little sweetheart is our very latest bear 'Bubble' - finished about 3hrs ago this afternoon! She is something a little different, and a little anime/cartoon. Despite not really liking how she looked when I first finished her face, I'm actually quite proud of her now. All of her accessories and shading have pulled the look together.

She was made with a small piece of this stunning tipped mohair I had saved in my personal stash from some years ago. So she is most definitely a one off. We used our 'Booth' pattern, but reduced it by 50% (ie. print two pages of the pattern document onto one A4 page). You can check out all of her details in her etsy listing currently.

And this fluffy boy was made yesterday. This is Clementine, so named due to his citrus coloured fur. I have used this fur some time ago for a trio of bears, but decided to use up the last of it for this big guy. He's made using our 'Booth' pattern, but we've placed the eyes a lot closer to the front of the face then is called for in the original design. The longer-pile fur helps give a more modern teddy look as well.

And lastly little 'Yue' - also made in the 'Booth' pattern reduced by 50%. He is made in our matted mohair range with a ribbon ruffle made from our new cross-grain spotted ribbons.

Tiny Yue is currently available in our etsy store.

Amidst all of the bear making and general life, we adopted a new guinea pig that is just Chelsea's pet. She has been named 'Kobe' and is the most chilled out, relaxed little pig I've ever met. Chelsea was doing the whole 'watching TV while feeding Kobe grass on the couch' thing she likes to do most days, when we got the idea to see if one of her Cabbage Patch doll nappies would fit on Kobe.

This was the result!

So after posting this picture on our guinea pig facebook page, we got lots of questions about the possibility of making some of these for other people's pets. I set about drawing up a pattern that would fit a piggy a little better. The end result is shown below:

We also made up some 'Ruffle' Piggy Panties for the more feminine pigs out there. These are especially cute! They are a little bizarre, but if you're interested you can also find cavy related goodies on our website too.

New bears for this week

This is our very latest new addition to the Emma's Bears creations. Her name is 'Autumn'. She is made in two of our kid mohairs and using our 'Alivea' pattern - with some slight alterations.

She is currently available to adopt as a one of a kind Emma's Bears creation, or you can purchase her complete kit (including the hand-altered pattern, instructions, 2 x 1/4m pieces of kid mohair, paw pad faux suede, 65mm joint sets, nose thread and your own unique pair of hand-painted glass eyes. The only things we don't include are polymer clay for the eyelids, sewing thread, stuffing and weights - all of which can be added to the kit if required. We can even do matching accessories if you wanted to leave that up to us too! lol)

Then earlier in the week/weekend I had been working on a special custom order - a miniature version of our
Booth and/or Acorn pattern. The bears from the original pattern can be seen at the back of the picture. They stand in at 13" tall. The minis stand in at a petite 6" tall. We achieved this pattern reduction by simply printed out the PDF file 2 pages to an A4 sheet of paper. If you already own this pattern you too can get the mini version simply by doing this. In fact - pretty much all of our patterns can be reduced or enlarged as you require without destroying the proportion (so long as the whole pattern is enlarged or reduced evenly).

We ended up making a panda, a bear and a puppy (more specifically a 'ruby cavalier kind charles' puppy!)

Clemmie has been adopted.

And Calum the puppy is also still available. We've missed the cut off for post to arrived before christmas internationally, but Australian collectors can still have their adoption in time if you hurry!

What a strange little Panda!

Check out this little guy! I found him on etsy last week in this stunning store by Verity of The Square Pumpkin (some of you might recognise her work? This is the Verity from 'merbears', the talented maker of bear-mermaids from a few years ago). He's made from recycled shopping bags. How ingenious! I just LOVE his shape. And he's unlike anything else in my collection. Verity has a few more baggy bears in her store if you hurry on over ;)

Oreo is available again!

I don't know how many of you will remember this bear, but I made him and his brother 'Blizzard' (the polar bear) a few months before Byron was born. Blizzard has long since gone to his new home just a few suburbs away from here! But Oreo was on a lay-away that has had to be cancelled due to financial issues.

So, Oreo is back up for sale! He's sitting next to me now, giving me that same bashful look as he has in all his photos. He really is a (big) sweet boy!

Can anyone else tell I'm just biding time now...?

I was trawling through facebook last night, when I noticed that a couple of friends of mine had 'liked' this thing called Cubeecraft. I had no idea what it was, but quickly figured it out. And it seems it's nothing new either! I have obviously been living under a rock (or in a pregnancy induced state of self-absorption anyway!).

So basically, what I understand is that its a collation of a whole heap of different artists and illustrators designs for cute little paper creatures/people/cartoons that you can print out on a single A4 piece of paper, cut out and create yourself for free! All you need is a computer and printer, access to the internet, scissors and a bit of glue!

This is the little guy I made last night. I'd say he took about an hour to accurately cut out, fold, glue and assemble - but that is probably just because he was my first try. It is pretty addictive, especially with the HUGE range of different designs available. The cubeecraft website has a big archive of them. The facebook page has some pretty cool fan photos. Some people have made a lot of these critters!
(This is the direct link for the odd little panda if you wanted to have a go at him too)

Anyways, just thought I'd share this little find for you all. I know how easy it is to get stuck on one kind of craft, or even to just feel like you need a break from sewing for a while! And this is something quick, free and satisfying!

Oreo and Blizzard

So the custom bears are done!!! I had so much fun making these two as well. It was a mission trying to carry them both, and the camera, and trying not to trip over Oliver to get photos of them together yesterday. I think one of the things I love the most about custom orders is that they help push you in a direction you maybe wouldn't have gone on your own. For example, I would never have purchased this mohair exclusively for this project on my own. I would have squirreled it away in my fur box, 'saving' it for an unknown project. But now it gets turned into these guys! Also, I would never have thought to make such big bears so squishy and cuddly - falling back on the whole 'limbs need to be firm, joints need to be tight' mantra - but it works so well like this! It takes what would have been a rather large and imposing bear with not much cuddle appeal, into a rather large and imposing bear that you just want to bury your face in!

And the twist in all of this is that these two bears are actually up for general adoption now too! I've just listed them on bearpile, but will add all the photos to the blog as well. I think it would be lovely if they could find a home together, but know that not many homes would have room for two such big giants. So I've listed them individually as well. And in the next few days I plan on making the grizzly bear version too (I cut him out as a supposed 'practice' bear for using the new pattern of mine, but got impatient and wanted to make the 'real' bears first!). So keep an eye out for the jumbo Grizzly to complete the bear family!

These are some photos of Oreo on his own:

And here we have Blizzard's individual photos as well:
