Jacaranda Rabbit

Well - we have had a busy week indeed, with Jacaranda Rabbit making it our 4th bear completed in the last 5 days (the other 3 creations have been adopted - but I will share photos of them in our next post).

Jacaranda Rabbit is made from a piece of our long pile white mohair that we experimentally dyed last weekend. I was playing around with tones trying to get a particular shade of purple when I pulled this piece out of the bucket. As it dried off I realised that we had quite a unique look here with the pink/mauve backing and the soft jacaranda blue/lilac pile.

So I put the piece aside for a quirky project.... and I think we delivered!   

Her name is self-explanatory, plus I like the way it rolls off the tongue :) We thought we'd experiment further with the tiny hand sculpted bunny teeth and the subtle 'freckle' like shading effect. The dramatic eye lids combined with the heavy shading give her an intensity that you just can't get with solid black eyes. This look won't be for everyone though... it can be a little full on!

Jacaranda is 15" tall and fully jointed. She is currently available for adoption via our etsy store.

Talora

I decided that I was feeling a little overwhelmed by custom orders on thursday - so while waiting for a colour choice answer from one of our customers, I decided I'd work on a bear I wanted to make just because :)

And this was the resulting lady. We called her 'Talora', which means 'morning's dew'. She is made from a piece of dense mohair hand-dyed in our latest turquoise batch. She is our 'Belarius' design - but stuffed in homage to our reborn-style baby bears with the weighting dstributed throughout her body/limbs and head. She is an older child though, caught playing dress ups with her mother's jewelery box, so she can sit upright.

Her gorgeous dress was a size 00 baby outfit that we dip-dyed in coffee to give the edges that sweet aged look. We chose to embroider her nose in a matching turquoise too as it seems to soften the face a bit more then a stark black nose. And her eyes were given expressive almond-shaped sculpted lids to add to her feminine appeal.

All up I was really happy with this big girl. She has found her new home now as well.

Mr Boofuls

This stunning big boy was another custom creation we worked on earlier this week. His new mum called him 'Mr Boofuls'. He was 21" tall, fully jointed and made entirely from a mix of kid mohair and luxury longpile mohair! He's quite a charmer isn't he!

Custom bear - Lady Fay

We were asked to create another BIG bear - this time in a long pile white faux fur paired with our pretty blue 'Bubblegum Blast' faux fur.

I was really excited to see this one take shape as I could see her in my mind already. Bringing out that little face is a bit of a tricky process though, but I think we got there with this girl.

Her new mum has called her 'Lady Fay'. A name befitting her rather regal yet feminine look.

Banjo

We're super busy behind the scenes at the moment creating quite a few custom bears - so to make some space on our work shelf for all our work-in-progress bears we decided to release one of our favourite bears made back in 2010 for general adoption. 

Banjo is the bear I didn't think I'd ever part with - but I have to stop being sentimental! 

So my loss is your gain. We only have him listed on our website at the moment, you'll find him here. 

Babette

With the last few pieces of hand-dyed turquoise fur left over from 'Umiko's' pattern cut out, we managed to whip together this little lady. Sweet Babette.

Babette is 12" tall (so a good deal more petite then Umiko), and made predominantly in the natural white mohair. We curled it to look the same as the pile effect on the dyed turquoise piece though (this mohair is called 'Eddie' in our store, and in the 'off-the-roll' form it's quite a flat/wavy pile. But add a bit of water, flick it out and hang it to dry and those flat waves become cascading curls!)

We've kept Babette quite softly stuffed but also very heavy, so you naturally want to kind of scoop her to you while you hold her. She nestles into your arms like a little kitten.

(If you can't tell I'm quite fond of this one!).

I couldn't help myself...

I just couldn't help myself. That pile of hand-dyed turquoise mohair was just sitting there staring at me, begging to be turned into SOMETHING... so I did.

And that something is the gorgeous big girl you see before you. We have called her 'Umiko', which means 'child of the sea' in Japanese. Seemed appropriate considering her lovely ocean-wave-like mohair.

I tried a different shape for her eyelid sculpt this time - going for a more almond shape similar to the shape I use when sculpting lids for the rabbits we make. It gives her a lovely soft expression that I quite like.

She is available for adoption at the time of writing, but I can't guarentee for how long that will be the case :)
